2027 Medicare Questions from Maui

Is HMSA leaving Maui?

No. HMSA is staying in the Medicare market, but it is ending two Medicare Advantage plans on December 31, 2026: Akamai Advantage Complete Plus and Akamai Advantage Standard Plus. About 16,000 members across Hawaiʻi received notices.

If you're in one of those plans, you need to choose new coverage for 2027. We can compare your options side by side.

My Medicare plan won't be offered in 2027. What happens if I do nothing?

You're moved to Original Medicare on January 1, 2027. Your plan's drug coverage ends with it, so you won't have Part D unless you join a drug plan.

What's the deadline to change my Medicare plan?

Annual Enrollment ends December 7, 2026. If your plan is ending, you have a special window through February 28, 2027, but enroll by December 31 to avoid a gap. A plan you pick in January starts February 1, and one picked in February starts March 1.

Which Medicare carriers do you work with on Maui?

For Medicare Advantage on Maui, we're contracted with Humana, UnitedHealthcare (UHC), and Devoted Health. We also help with Medicare Supplement and Part D prescription drug plans.

Can I enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan online myself?

Yes. Use our Medicare plan finder to compare plans at your Maui ZIP code and self-enroll online. If you'd like us to double-check your doctors and prescriptions first, call or text Madison or Tatum.

Can I switch to a Medicare Supplement if my plan is ending?

Yes, that's one option. When a Medicare Advantage plan ends, you may have a guaranteed issue right to buy certain Supplement plans without medical underwriting. You can apply as early as 60 days before your plan ends and up to 63 days after.

Are there still Medicare Advantage plans on Maui for 2027?

Yes. CMS reports 46 Medicare Advantage plans in Hawaiʻi for 2027, up from 44 in 2026. Plans vary by ZIP code, so we check exactly what's offered where you live.

Does it cost anything to work with you?

No. Our help is no cost to you. Insurance companies pay us, and you pay the same premium as enrolling on your own.

Can I meet with an agent in person on Maui?

Yes. Madison and Tatum both live on Maui and meet in person, by phone, or by video.

Can you help my spouse or family members under 65?

Yes. We help with individual and family health insurance, including ACA Marketplace plans with premium tax credits, and small business group coverage.

"We know Medicare can feel confusing enough without an agent on the mainland who's never set foot on Maui."

Local Agents, Not a Call Center

Madison lives in Kīhei and Tatum lives in Lahaina. They understand the plans actually available here and are happy to meet in person, by phone, or by video.

Honest advice. Real people. A family that has your back.
